Sacramental Preparation

Infant Baptism

Parents and Godparents are required to complete a Baptism preparation class. All will need a copy of their Baptism certificate & Godparents will need proof of Confirmation, and if from another Parish, they will need a letter of approval from their Parish priest. Baptism preparation classes are good for 2 years. After that, you may be required to take a refresher course. Please contact danielle@sacredheartenumclaw.org for more information or to get started. Infant baptisms are for children up to 7 years old.

Child baptism

Once a child is older than 7 years old, the are at what the church calls “the age of reason,” and the process for baptism changes in order to help the child understand the great gift they are receiving. At the time of Baptism, those who are older than 7 will receive Confirmation and First Communion all together according to the Tradition of the Church. This is a two-year process. Children must attend age-appropriate catechesis in the first year, in the second year they will meet bimonthly on Sundays with Deacon George in addition to age-appropriate catechesis weekly in order to prepare for their full initiation into the church at the Easter Vigil. Please contact danielle@sacredheartenumclaw.org for more information or to get started.

1st Communion and Reconciliation

LEARNING TO WALK IN THE FOOTSTEPS OF THE LORD.

Jesus Christ invites us to come away and be with Him to grow in knowledge and love of Him in His Church. Without Sunday Mass, our programs will not be fruitful. Without prayer and Confession, our programs will miss the mark. Without your support in living the Faith with your children and at home, our programs will not take any root in the hearts of our young parishioners as they grapple with all the more difficult issues in their own souls and in the world today.

The first step is to register your children, so we know who is interested in participating this year. This will help us format and plan the programs to best serve the children and families. Please register online: sacredheartenumclaw.org/registration or in the main office. Preparation is a two-year process and children may start in 1st grade. Children must be 7 years old at the time of First Communion.

Year 1:

We will be learning about the Bible, the basic stories, how to find Bible verses, and starting to memorize verses and basic prayers. Children will be encouraged to practice at home! We use “Gods Plan in Scripture,” by Ascension Press for our Curriculum.

Year 2:

We will dive into the mystery of the True Presence of Jesus Christ in the Eucharist, and prepare the children to make a good first confession. We will continue to practice our memorized prayer. We use “Renewed and Received,” by Ascension Press for year 2 curriculum.

First Holy Communion and First Penance Requirements:

  1. You must be a registered parishioner of Sacred heart Parish to enroll your child. If you are not registered with us and would like to be, you can register your family at our front office.

  2. You will need to provide a copy of your child’s baptismal certificate at the time of program registration, unless they were baptized at Sacred Heart, Enumclaw.

  3. To offset the cost of the programs there is a fee of $50 per year, if you need financial assistance, please indicate so on your registration form.

  4. Come to class! We have a great year planned for the kids and it is so important that attending class is a priority.
