Adult Scripture Study:  Open, Read, And Wonder!  A guide to Reading the Bible Well

This Winter our Scripture Study classes are taking a step back and looking at what we mean when we talk about the Bible as “the Word of God.”  We will discuss and explore the Catholic understanding of Inspiration, Inerrancy, Interpretationand Revelation.  We will discuss the different books in the Bible and the reasons why some were included while others were not.  Finally, we will take a brief run through the Old and New Testaments, looking specifically at the readings we know so well in their historical context.  Come join us!  No experience necessary and bring a Bible if you have one!
Pick a day and time that works for you!  Mondays at 9:45 AM, Tuesdays at 7:00 PM, or Thursdays at 9:45 AM.

Inquiry:  What does it mean to be Catholic?

Why do Catholics believe what they do?  Come join us as we look closely at the core teachings of our faith.  These classes are open to anyone and everyone.  This is also the first step for those who are interested in becoming Catholic but there is no obligation or expectation if you come to the classes.   Childcare and cookies provided!  Our winter series begins on Wednesday, January 11th at 7PM in the Christian Formation Center.  Call Mathew (825-2333) for more information.

Sacraments: Doors to the Sacred

Every January and February we offer classes for parents of children (and other interested adults)who are preparing to receive the Sacraments of First Communion and Reconciliation.  These classes are one of the steps in our parish sacramental preparation process.  In addition, they are also one way that we as adults can reflect on the meaning of the sacraments in our lives and to see them for what they really are: a challenge to go deeper into our faith to find the doors to the sacred in our lives.
This year our classes will be held on Monday evenings from 7 PM to 8:30 PM, beginning January 23rd.  Childcare will be provided.

Our topics this year will include:

  • An Open Door into the Mystery of God!
  • Who made you?  Who do you belong to?  Who feeds you? A closer look at Baptism, Confirmation & Eucharist.
  • You are what you eat!  Dining in the Kingdom of God.
  • All the “good” stuff: temptation, sin, guilt, sorrow… and forgiveness. (Reconciliation)
  • Using blessed oil to smooth our path to God.  (Confirmation & Anointing of the Sick)
  • Married to Mystery: God as lover and beloved.
